Redirects are cached
It seems like the shorturl service send redirects such that browsers cache the result and do not trigger requests anymore, making changes to existing short-urls somewhat effectless.

Apparently, as StackOverflow states, "In the absense of cache control directives that specify otherwise, a 301 redirect defaults to being cached without any expiry date."
